Tomorrow, May 8, we will kick-off Newington’s first town-wide book project. The Newington Public School and the Langdon Public Library have teamed up for “One Community – One Book.” The book we all will be reading is The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs by Betty G. Birney. In the book, an 11-year-old boy is fascinated by the Seven Wonders of the World and feels stuck in the small farming community of Sassafras Springs. But his dad assures him there are “wonders” to be discovered right in his own home town, so he challenges him to find the Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs. We hope this book will inspire Newingtonites young and old to discover, or rediscover, the wonders of our own special little town. A school field trip is planned for the end of school year. If you’d like to participate, read the book (copies will be available through the school, at the library, and at Barnes & Noble for $5.99) and suggest your favorite Newington “Wonder” in the comments below!
