Thanks to everyone who came out for our bench dedication ceremony on Saturday afternoon! Please visit our photostream on Flickr to see more pictures from the day, and feel free to “tag” yourself or others you see in the pictures. Simply click on the picture above to see more.  And if you have your own Flickr account and some photos of your own you’d like to share, why not upload them?  It was a great event attended by more than 50 friends, family members, library and town officials… by all reports and by all measures, the ceremony was a rousing success.  Several people said it best: John would be pleased!

John Welch Memorial Bench Dedication: May 9th

A year ago in April, longtime Newington resident John Welch passed away.  He was a loyal library patron and had served as a Langdon Library trustee for six years.  Because the library meant so much to him, it was asked that donations be made to Langdon Library.  He was well loved by all who knew him and the “Welch Fund” grew quickly.  When he was a trustee, John was always interested in improving the appearance of the library — he even helped to set up a special fund for capital improvements and emergency repairs — so we decided to honor him with a memorial bench in front of the library.  The bench, provided by Seacoast Memorials of Portsmouth, is made of high-quality New Hampshire granite and has a back that will bear his name.  On Saturday, May 9th, the bench will be formally unveiled.  His family will be in attendance and all the donors have been invited.  Why not stop by in the afternoon and join us?  Dedication will commence at 2PM.  Snacks and refreshments will be served at the open house immediately following.
