Air Show

Here in Newington, we’re used to it. Ever since Pease Air Force Base came along in the 50s, the locals have been able to tell what kind of aircraft is flying over without even looking — the rumble of the engines and the rattle of the cupboards told them. And since the library is essentially at the end of the runway, we sometimes get an eyeful and an earful! This is certainly true this weekend, as the Navy Blue Angels invade our airspace as part of the big air show.  Here’s the official web site with all the up-to-date information.

There have been signs on the Spaulding Turnpike all week warning us to expect heavy traffic.  McIntire/Newington Rd. is closed from 12-4PM, Thursday through Sunday.  A thousand or so Boy Scouts are camping out in Newington.  Officials are expecting upward of 70,000 visitors at the show.  But despite the myriad of potential issues, we’re going to open for business as per usual on Saturday.  (Hey, we’ve got all these books about military aircraft to check out, right?!)  That said, if we’re not in the building right at 10AM, or we’re closed before 4PM, it’s because we’re stuck in, or trying to beat, all that traffic. Note: Blue Angels are up at 15:15. Enjoy the show!
