Attention Gamers!
By scottcampbell | November 8, 2008
On Saturday, November 15th, the American Library Association is sponsoring “National Gaming Day @ your library.” Board games have long been a part of libraries — locals fondly recall the legendary Scrabble games between Duane and Lydia here at the library, and of course we’ve always got a puzzle going. But now, today’s modern video games are carving a niche in public libraries, as well. So here’s what we’ll be doing to celebrate Gaming Day:
*We’ll have a PlayStation 2 console hooke
d up to the TV here at the library, and we’ll bring Guitar Hero III, too. Come and rock out!
*Bring in your favorite PS2 game and show us your skillz. If you play Wii or X-Box at home, bring that in, too!
*The library has started adding Game Informer magazine — each issue is packed with info about the hottest new video games. Look at it here or take a copy home!
*We’ve set up a GameFly account for the library. GameFly is just like NetFlix for video games. You name it, they’ve probably got it. E-mail us or comment below and let me know which game you’d like to try. I’ll add the game to our queue and let you know when it arrives — then you can come pick it up, take it home, and try it out for a couple weeks. Free! Teens: Stop doing the buy-it-get-bored-with-it-return-it hamster wheel — it’s a rip-off! Parents: Preview the games your kids are asking for!
*I’ll also be challenging the town of Newington to a game of Scrabble. Come in and play a hand!
*What about the old favorites, like chess, checkers, Go Fish, Crazy Eights, War, Old Maid? Yep, we’ve got them, too. All you need to bring is a friend!
*Plus, we’ve also got a BRAND NEW game called Pictureka! C’mon down and give it a try… It might be your new favorite.
See you Saturday!
