Do you have museum passes?
By scottcampbell | January 31, 2009
This question is posed to us with some regularity, especially during school vacation weeks. Because we’re such a small town, buying the standard museum passes simply doesn’t make sense — they’re expensive annual subscriptions that are only available at fixed prices, so we pay for them whether they get used or not. But we’ve got a better idea. We’re starting a new program to help encourage the use of museums and, in these tough economic times, to take the edge off the cost, as well.
The way it’ll work is simple: Present your receipt at the library and we’ll reimburse you for your visit up to the library’s discount schedule. (See us for details; discounts vary by museum.) We’ve added a new 2009 budget line item for this program, so after the budget passes at town meeting, it’ll be official. Going to a museum between January 1 and town meeting? Keep your receipt, because we’ll honor it after town meeting. We think this plan is a creative and economical way to serve the public and promote museum patronage, but let us know what you think!
