According to NH RSA 201-D11, library records containing identifying information regarding their users are confidential. Records may be disclosed only as necessary for the proper operation of the library and/or by request or consent of the user, or pursuant to subpoena or court order. A library user is not defined by age in this statute, which means the records of minor children are also confidential. The library protects the privacy of all cardholders in accordance with this statute. Parents/guardians should consider this when creating library cards for children.
