TJ Wheeler: A Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.

May 26, 2018 Written by Lara Berry

Thursday, June 7 6:30 PM on the library patio, weather permitting

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, Tj has created a program entitled “The Other Side of the Mountaintop.” It will highlight the hopes and work that Dr. King was planning at the time of his death and include the back stories behind the classic Civil Rights anthems as well as the “masked messages” of secular popular folk, soul, and R&B songs on up to the music of today. Examples include: “I Shall Overcome,” “Oh Freedom,” “People Get Ready,” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Join in singing some of the familiar songs, and learn some new ones. Stay for discussion after the concert. All ages welcome.
